We asked Matt:

How would you describe yourself?
Generous, caring, friendly, open minded and accepting, style and design focused. Love laughing, friends and hospitality. Average height, basic looks and very fortunate.

What are your personal strengths and weaknesses?
Short tempered, sometimes rash. Great at big picture and concepts less good at detail, fairly short attention span and can be impatient so tend hurry things. Very lateral thinker, fast thinker, positive outlook most of the time. Emotionally, very high or very low. Good sense of style and a natural eye for design. Can be inventive.

What is your most endearing trait?
Loyalty.

What is your most annoying habit, if any?
Talk too much, bite my nails.

What are your hobbies?
Painting, cooking, entertaining.

What has been the biggest challenge in your life so far and how have you dealt with it?
Always working for myself and not having a trust fund.

What is the accomplishment you are most proud of?
Getting to where I am now. I worked hard, made a lot of mistakes, but am proud of where I am at, with the people in my life and respect my current position and the path I took to date.

What would be the craziest, wildest thing you would do for a lot of money?
Television.

What would you NOT do for money?
Put my relationships on the line.

What made you enter The Block?
The fact I thought we could win. Being on television while doing it was a side issue. I

What makes you laugh?
Farts. Embarrassing things, either my own (funnier) or other peoples.

What skills do you bring to The Block?
Design. Creative ideas and solid planning. Also being able to produce original artwork. Most of all I hope to bring some fun and laughter (even if the laughter will be at my expense!).

What unique quality will you bring to The Block?
Friendliness, good healthy competition, fairness but intense determination.

Why do you believe that you could be the winner of The Block?
The end product will be the best design. Our organisation will enable us to professionally execute our ideas and our teamwork and commitment to each other will help us actually survive to claim the prize.

What is your most treasured possession and why?
Jane. I don't want anything without her.

Who is your hero and why?
My parents. Still happily married after 35 years. They live and work together every day. They share friends. They raised four kids, they both worked full time, they have few material possessions but love life and are overly generous. Never negative just hopeless and dream of living in Italy. They did and do so much with so little. I find their simple outlook and contentment inspirational. Anyone who suffers quietly and does the same or more than a person with no problems.

Describe your perfect day?
Sleep till 10 with Jane, get up to a perfect day and go for a swim in the ocean, return for a long outdoor lunch with friends, good food, good wine, music, laughter. Finish with an evening swim and a good outdoor movie.

What renovations have you done before?
I built a house from the ground up in inner city Melbourne, mainly designed and project managed. Renovated a small unit for a friend and lived in it for 12 months. Just renovated our current flat. It was a shell and we did everything. I painted the flat and helped a friend out who was a builder. Did all of the running around, sourcing and purchasing.

Who was your favourite couple on The Block 1. Why?
Phil and Amity. They seemed to be the most relaxed couple, also the most positive and had the best relationship. Even though they wanted to win, they were still decent people.

What do you love most about your partner?
Her beauty both outer and inner. Her compassion for everything. The fact that I feel like I have known her for ever and I find her so easy to be with. I love her mind, her ambition, the way we can do a five star function and still eat at McDonalds. I love the way she makes me a better person and the way that I know that. She is funny, smart, passionate about life, loves me and her family intensely. Everything else.

How did you meet your partner?
We met at a meeting where I was going to lease a space for Lionel and Jane was doing PR for the developer.

What is their most annoying habit/trait?
We have different ways of doing things and we are both stubborn.

How do you relax?
Movies, painting, and cooking. Eating with friends, beach holidays in Byron Bay.

How much money would you like to make from The Block?
I would love to make 500,000 but would be rapt with 100,000 and grateful for 12 weeks wages.

What would you do with prize money?
Buy a holiday house at Lorne/Wye River for our family, take an overseas holiday/honeymoon and invest the rest in a property/ development.

Do you want to be famous?
Yes.

What's your favourite holiday destination?
Byron Bay. Would love to explore beach destinations overseas.

If you weren't doing what you do now (occupation) — what would you be doing?
Living in Byron Bay doing anything. But would ultimately like to run a guesthouse.
